India, July 27, 2019: Apollo Cradle and Apollo Fertility,
India’s leading maternity hospital & fertility chain and a division of
Apollo Health & Lifestyle Limited, today announced a slew of pioneering
initiatives, to address the growing fertility issues and challenges in the
country and to make available, advanced neo natal technology and quality
maternity care to the population in Tier II & Tier III cities and towns, in
the next 5 years. Apollo Cradle announced the setting up of its
first Integrated Neo-Natal Care Unit (eNICU) Command center at Hyderabad, with plans to establish two more centers in
Bengaluru and Delhi in the next few months.
eNICU is a first of its kind initiative by Apollo
Hospitals Group, a pioneer in Telemedicine in India, to enable Cradle’s expert
team of Neo-natal specialists at the command centers to remotely monitor &
manage, minute details including medication levels, nutrition, feeding pattern,
calorie and growth charts of babies at smaller hospitals and nursing home and
provide real-time advisory through audio-video calls. The initiative aims to
address the lack of infrastructure and know-how and significantly improve
neo-natal outcomes across India.
Not stopping at maternity care though, Apollo HLL has
also taken a step towards addressing the growing fertility issues and
challenges both in urban and rural India. The group announced that it will set
up ‘Centers of Excellence’ for Fertility in each of the metro cities in the
next year and also set up 50 more Apollo Fertility centers across Tier I, II
& III cities through a hub and spoke model, in the next two- three years.
Apollo Fertility also announced ‘Apollo Androcare’, an exclusive male fertility
program to provide dedicated male fertility specialists, again a first in the
country that will address an estimate 50% of infertility issues in couples
today.
Speaking on the new initiatives, Ms. Sangita Reddy, Joint
Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Group, said, “India has large disparities between states on health indicators such as
infant mortality. While there is tremendous improvement, as per UN
Inter-Agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation, the infant mortality rate
(IMR) in India was 32 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2017, though the global
average is 29 as per WHO report in 2017. Infant Mortality Rates (IMR) continues
to be a growing concern, world over. Although India
has reduced its infant mortality rate (IMR) by 42% over 11 years--from 57 per
1,000 live births in 2006 to 32 in 2017, as per the latest Government data
released in May 2019, India’s IMR still remains high compared to neighbouring
countries. In case of neonatal mortality rate too, India witnesses 24 deaths
per 1,000 live births while the global average remained at 18. This clearly demonstrates high levels of
inequality in access to quality maternity care. Technology has had a
significant role to play in the advancement of medical treatments and care. As
a pioneer and leader in healthcare, Apollo is at the forefront to bring the
best of both worlds – technology and medicine to improve the quality of lives
of people. Hence, in line with our vision we are extending the reach of
our clinical care & program to the smaller cities and towns, where the need
for quality maternity and neo-natal care is the highest.”
Mr. Chandra Sekhar, CEO Apollo Health &
Lifestyle Limited said, “India is the second largest populated country in
the world and as a pioneer and leader in healthcare, we are committed to not
only provide quality treatment and services, but more importantly to leverage
advanced technology and to innovate and reverse conventional models, to better
address the country’s current need gaps and requirements in fertility,
maternity and neo-natal care.”
Mr. Anubhav Prashant, COO,
Apollo Cradle & Apollo Fertility added, “The eNICU technology
platform is a step in the right direction towards providing timely intervention
to new borns. Apart from pioneering this technology at Apollo Cradle, we
envision to make this technology available to other hospitals as well with
focus on Tier II and Tier III cities in an effort to curb Infant Mortality Rate
in the country. The second edition of our 3 day annual international
conference here is another step and initiative to bring together the best minds
on the subject and derive new-age solutions that address future requirements.”
